Your called will be answered by the Medstar-LifeComm Communication Center.

Working with local 911 Centers, emergency responders, referring hospitals and physicians, our Communication Specialists provided detailed direction and patient information to the Medstar Flight Team en route to the scene, or referring hospital.

 

PLEASE BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION

FOR SCENE REQUESTS:

· Nature on Incident (MVC, Fall, Fire,etc)

· Approximate age, sex and weight of patient.

· Brief patient History / Mechanism of Injury

· EMS / Medical Contact and Radio Frequency

· Fire Officer / Landing Zone Officer, or Incident Commander, and Radio Frequency

· Please Include PL’s if needed

· Landing Zone Description

· Nearest town, or intersection

· LifeComm will verify GPS coordinates with you if you have them available.

· Any other Information you feel may be of importance to us

· For the safety of the Flight Team, and all Emergency Personnel, PLEASE notify the Medstar Communication Center if you have requested aircraft from other agencies, who are also responding to your scene.

INTERFACILITY TRANSFERS:

· Patient type (Medical, Trauma, Cardiac)

· Referring Physician

· Receiving Physician

· Destination / Receiving Facility,

· Confirmed bed availability

· Does your patient require

· Mechanical ventilation?

· Continuous IV Infusions?

· Invasive Monitoring?

· IABP, LVAD, ECMO  or other special medical devices ?

· The Communication Center will request a  Patient Demographic Sheet. You will be provided a fax number at the time of your request.

· We do require an Air Methods / Medstar Patient Consent Form, AND Physician Certification Statement of Medical Necessity, for EMTALA/COBRA purposes. Please contact us at anytime, and we will provide these forms to you, should the need arise. Flight Team members do have the forms available for you as well, at time of patient contact.
