Safety is of the utmost importance!  A critically injured rescuer is unable to help a critically injured patient.  Below are some keys points to remember when you are near an LZ.  For information on having an LZ officer class presented to your service, please contact us at (814) 534-9063.

  • No smoking within 50 feet of the aircraft
  • Do not approach the aircraft unless you have been instructed to do so by the medical crew.  Then only approach after receiving a "thumbs up" by the pilot
  • Approach the aircraft from the 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock positions only.  Never walk behind the aircraft or approach the aircraft from the rear!!
  • While approaching the aircraft with the rotors turning, watch the "tip path plane" of the main rotor system
  • Keep vehicles at least 100 feet away from the aircraft
  • Do not run
  • No loose articles of clothing near a running aircraft
  • No IV poles

LZ requirements:
