A founding member of the American Trauma Society in 1974, Dr. Mattox is considered by many to be the "founding father" of modern trauma care.  He is currently on the Board of Managers for the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma.  He is a Professor in Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine and The Uniformed Services University for Health Services, Bethesda, MD.  Dr. Mattox is the Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff at Ben Taub General Hospital, Houstan, TX.  He serves on numerous national and international committees on Trauma, Surgery, and EMS development.  He is credited with more than 500 publications.
